T.81 governs the JPEG coding process. JFIF and Exif are related file/metadata conventions; ICC profiles may be embedded. The ordinary JPEG workflow has no standard alpha channel or vector geometry. This section does not prescribe a universal quality, PPI, or machine setting.
The technical distinction between common lossy JPEG 1 and other JPEG-family technologies is essential. The guide intentionally avoids claiming that all JPEG-family coding is lossy. It also distinguishes encoded pixels from PPI metadata, and color profile presence from accurate physical color reproduction.
