JPG or JPEG? They are common extensions for the same JPEG image family. Is JPEG a vector? No; an ordinary JPEG is a fixed pixel image. Can it be transparent? Ordinary JPEG does not provide a standard alpha channel.
Why do two extensions exist? .jpg and .jpeg are conventional spellings of the same common image family, with historical filename-length conventions helping explain .jpg. Does changing the name convert the image? No; conversion requires re-encoding the actual file. Should every product image be JPEG? No; art with transparency or crisp vectors may call for another format.
