Raster image. .jpg and .jpeg are extension aliases. Common photographic JPEG encoding is lossy; the JPEG standard family also includes other modes, so inspect the actual file when a technical distinction matters.
JPEG is not the same as JPEG 2000, JPEG XL, or other JPEG-branded technologies. A common .jpg/.jpeg is the ordinary JPEG 1 family discussed here. Do not change only the extension to convert among formats.
