What is it used for?
Use JPEG for photographic and continuous-tone images where small, widely compatible files are helpful and a transparent background is not required. A JPEG may serve as production artwork only after the intended product, size, color workflow, software, and maker requirements are checked.
A JPEG may be a listing photograph, a design reference, or an approved production input. Those are separate roles. A photo of a mug tells a buyer what the mug looks like; a full-size wrap image prepared to the mug template is a production asset; a small thumbnail is neither automatically interchangeable with the other.
